OVERVIEW

July 11th is known as International Essential Oils Day, created in 2018 by Jared Turner to honor D. Gary Young, the founder of Young Living Association and a pioneer in the field, to pause and appreciate the quiet influence of one of nature's most concentrated gifts and to celebrate their growing relevance in our modern life.

For decades, at least 25 years, people have increasingly used these natural extracts by applying them on the skin or in other ways, to support physical and emotional well-being. Each oil, distilled from a wide variety of plants, has its own unique composition, purity and color, reflecting the diversity of the living world itself.

This day not only highlights the therapeutic benefits of essential oils, but also reminds us of their universal accessibility, which is so important because us humans often seek balance and simplicity.

HISTORY – TIMELINE

FIVE FACTS ABOUT ESSENTIAL OILS

SEVERAL FRAGRANCES – Essential oils come in multiple fragrances, like peppermint, cedarwood, lavender and lemon.
AROMATIC EXPERIENCE – These days, essential oils are commonly used in diffusers to create an aromatic experience in a closed room.
IMPROVES AIR QUALITY – Essential oils, when diffused in a room through candles or diffusers, can help to increase the atmospheric oxygen in a room.
PLANTS PRODUCE IT – Quite surprisingly, only less than 1% of the entire plant species population can produce essential oils.
THEY AREN’T NECESSARILY OILS – Essential oils may not necessarily be oils as they’re also extracted as nutrients from a plant.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

  • Essential oils come with a range of health benefits depending on the oil, that can aid in digestion and menstrual cycles, relieving stress, alleviating nausea, boosting immunity, soothing headaches, and improving the skin;
  • Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts prepared with a process called steam distillation and it must be ensured that they aren’t treated with pesticides;
  • The amount of meticulousness that goes into making these oils is commendable;
  • We often tend to use products in our daily lives that are infused with chemicals, but we may not realize it but they could have negative effects in the long run;
  • Essential oils are prepared without the usage of chemicals, which makes them organic, pure, and safe to use; however, everyone must check the usage of essential oils around plants and animals.

CONCLUSIONS

July 11th is more than just a day to celebrate simple fragrances, because it's a moment to reflect on the deeper meaning behind what we choose to breathe in and surround ourselves with.

Essential oils remind us that healing and harmony often come from the simplest sources, and these gifts of nature remain accessible to everyone, regardless of social status.
