Need for cash from Italian companies

  • The growth concerns both sole proprietorships (+20%) and joint-stock companies (+34%).
  • In 2021 Q1 there was a sensible increase (+61,9%) also in the medium amount requested, which adds up to 112.000 Euro.

To meet liquidity needs, in 2020 Italian companies intensified their propensity to target financial institutions, a trend that was confirmed even in the first quarter of 2021 with credit requests that grew by a total of +28,7% compared to Q1 2020. These are the results of the analysis of the credit investigations registered on EURISC, the Credit Information System managed by CRIF. 

he trend of increase regards both the Joint-stock companies, which in the first three months of the year showed a +34% increase, and sole proprietorships, for which the increment was of +20%.
In detail, 38% of total demand comes from the service sector, which precedes industry, with 36.6%, retail, with 14.5%, and wholesale, with 10.9%.

The latest update by the CRIF Barometer also shows a significant increase in the average amount requested (+61.9%), which in the first quarter of the year stood at 111,997 Euros.

With regard to Sole Proprietorships, which represent the backbone of the national economic and productive fabric, credit requests saw an average amount of 41,655 Euros (+44.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2020). The incidence of the bracket up to 20,000 Euros covers 61.5% of the total.

On the other hand, with regard to Joint-stock companies, the average amount requested stands at 150,212 Euros, marking a percentage increase of +60.5%. Specifically, the amount of more than half of the requests is higher than 20,000 Euros.
